To bridge basic and clinical sciences in the study, teaching and diagnosis of disease.
To be a leader in Pathology education, research and clinical service.
The Department of Anatomic Pathology and Forensic Medicine was born out of the Department of Pathology in 2015 following the successful professional accreditation by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). This was closely followed, in 2016, by its repositioning from the Faculty of Medicine to the Faculty of Clinical Sciences as a consequence of the conversion of the Faculty of Medicine into the College of Medicine under the leadership of the first College Provost, Professor Mohammed Nasir Sambo. The present Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences was established in October 2018 with Professor Olufunmilayo Elegba as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty which oversees the four Laboratory Medicine Departments (Anatomic Pathology & Forensic Medicine, Chemical Pathology & Immunology, Haematology & Blood Transfusion and Medical Microbiology & Parasitology) and the Department of Clinical Pharmacology.
Since its inception, the Department has been led foremost by Dr Godwin Iko Ayuba (from 2015-2022), then Dr Daniel Yakubu (2022-2023) and presently, Dr Sannom M Yates.
